I recovered and photographed multiple adult palm weevils while monitoring a mature Canary Island date palm on my Old Escondido property. The palm had already been on my radar because of changes in its crown.
That does not mean every crown problem is SAPW. It does mean I take unusual decline in a mature CIDP seriously, especially when new growth distorts, the crown thins quickly, or nearby palms have already been lost.

If a mature CIDP changes quickly, photograph the whole palm and the center of the crown. Look for thinning, failed or distorted new growth, sudden browning, or rapid loss of canopy. Then get the palm looked at before the visible answer becomes obvious.
